Crisis Intervention Teams
Communities are faced with problems associated with an inadequate community response to the issue of individuals with untreated  mental illness coming into contact with the criminal justice system.  Both criminal justice leaders and mental health advocates are searching for solutions  such as Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Police Training, but are finding it difficult to access the expertise needed to adopt the program locally.

Through a series of community presentations and  regional CIT demonstration training events, law enforcement agencies, mental health providers and consumer/family advocates are being given the tools to collaborate in the development of a community response to these issues.  The  goal of CIT is to reduce the number of contacts that police have with persons  with mental illness that end in an injury or a death and to provide front line law enforcement personnel with the tools to help this vulnerable population into recovery..
